Moving
So this weekend I was helping some friends who are moving. We rented a boedelbak which is a kind of trailer. I wasn’t really awake yet and since I was mostly there for the driving part I wasn’t really paying attention and let my friends hook the trailer to my car.
When we started driving I said; ‘Oh, I think we should have put the license plate on the trailer.’ But I didn’t really feel like pulling over and besides, what are the odds that you run in some police officers who will actually notice? Unfortunately for me, we were gonna find out REALLY soon.
We passed some police officers on scooters and I said: ‘Oh, crap, I’m not wearing my seat belt.. oh well, we’ve already passed them.’ When I passed a corner and saw the police officers on their scooters passing me and stopping a little ahead, I was suspecting I might have a problem. Of course they stopped me, asked me for my drivers license, pointed out that I was not wearing my seat belt and asked me if I had a license plate for the trailer. I put the license plate on the trailer immediately, showed the officers my drivers license and was about as apologetic as I could be about the seat belt.
They pointed out that the trailer was not perfectly connected to the car (which would be ticket 3) and they wanted to check if I was allowed to drive with this specific trailer with my drivers license (which could have been ticket 4).
When the trailer was connected perfectly to the car and they cleared me for driving with this specific trailer, they told me that they would just give me warnings (on all 3 accounts) and told me to wear my seat belt.
Pfew.. close one. I am almost considering making a habit out of wearing my seat belt
Love,
Soosh
